S
mall-scale-engineering continues to dominate our lives - while studying (microprocessor in a computer), driving (micromachined accelerometer in an air bag sensor) and entertaining (digital micromirror array in a movie theater projector). In this summer research program dedicated to small-scale-engineering, you will learn about sensing and manipulation functions with computation and communication to locally control chemical and physical parameters from molecular level up to microstructure level. Of course, you will not be alone.  Prominent scholars and experts will guide you to this exciting engineering field.

Categorized into three layers of learning experiences, this 10 week summer research will focus on integration, interface and interpretation (INT3) aspects of small-scale-engineering.

You will participate in one of the following research projects:

  • Module 1: pH-sensitive Molecular Springs

  • Module 2: Carbon Nanotube Composites

  • Module 3: Dielectrophoretic Cell Capture Device

  • Module 4: Miniature High Temperature Shape Memory Alloy Actuators

  • Module 5: Investigation of Nano-cluster Thin Films and Acoustoelectric Effect

  • Module 6: Smart Paper

  • Module 7: Constitutive Modeling of Electrically Conductive Coating

  • Module 8: Fuel Cell Water Management

  • Module 9: Microdroplet Manipulator

  • Module 10: Biofuel Droplet Dynamics

  • Module 11: Micro-Miniature Engineering for Fuel Cells
